Under general supervision, the Library page performs routine duties within the Library, primarily limited to re-shelving collection items and shelf reading.
Answer basic questions from patrons on the floor.
May provide training and orientation to volunteers, students and newly assigned personnel on site policies and practices.
Examples of Duties This description covers the most significant essential and auxiliary duties performed by the position, but does not include other occasional work, which may be similar, related to, or a logical assignment for the position.
Essential Duties:
1.
Re-shelve collection materials following standardized shelving instructions.
2.
Perform shelf reading in order to discover and correct mis-shelved materials.
3.
May perform the more routine duties of a Library Assistant I in order to learn or improve skills and knowledge of general library operations.
May perform other duties as assigned.
4.
Maintain cooperative working relationships with City staff, other organizations, and the general public.
5.
Follow all safety rules and procedures for work areas.
Auxiliary Duties:
Provide assistance to other staff as workload and staffing levels dictate.
Perform various clerical tasks in support of library operations, e.
g.
:
data entry, mail sorting, photocopying, typing, etc.
Maintain proficiency by attending training and meetings, reading materials, and meeting with others in areas of responsibility.
Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner.
May perform other related duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications Knowledge of:
Arithmetic, spelling, alpha/numeric sorting methods, general clerical skills, operation of data entry and other standard office equipment, and customer service.
Ability to:
Provide patron-focused customer service aligned with the City's mission and strategic planning, be a strong team player, and contribute to the constant improvement of the Library.
The ability to work productively and cooperatively with other teams and external customers and convey a positive image of the City and its services Education and
Experience:
Typical education and experience would include the equivalent to a high school education, or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the above duties.

Previous work experience in a public library organization.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be required to crouch, crawl, kneel, stoop, bend, and reach.
Extended periods of standing may be required.
May need to use a step stool to reach high shelves.
Duties involve moving materials weighing up to 5 pounds on a regular basis such as magazines, files, books, office equipment, etc.
May occasionally lift, move, push, or carry objects between 20 and 50 pounds.
Manual dexterity and coordination are required more than 50% of the work period while shelving and operating equipment such as library carts and book ends, computer keyboard, calculator, and standard office equipment.
Working Conditions:
This position works in a library or community setting with some hectic or demanding situations; occasional dealing with distraught individuals and challenging customer interactions; and frequent interruptions, which requires maximum flexibility.
This position routinely uses standard office equipment, such as computers and telephones.
Schedules may include evenings and/or weekends.
Prompt arrival for shift work and dependable maintenance of scheduled hours is necessary.
Some trainings and meetings are held virtually.
Interaction with colleagues and supervisors is mostly in-person with additional virtual communication, both synchronous and asynchronous.
Occasional operation of a motor vehicle on public roads, or equivalent mobility, may be required to attend trainings in the region.
